At the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce’s annual education breakfast, UCLA Chancellor Gene Block urged students to study abroad, learn foreign languages and take other steps to develop an international perspective to compete in the global arena.

And to embrace this global perspective, students should acquire leadership skills starting in high school and take advantage of international baccalaureate (IB) and other such programs, he said. Companies also want employees who can write and speak clearly and have technological competency.

“In this global outlook it’s going to be critical for cross-cultural agility. We have to make certain we’re investing in more education, making sure our students are more competent than ever before, “ he told students and professionals gathered at the chamber’s Good Morning Coral Gables breakfast held April 19 at the Biltmore Hotel.

“If we’re going to succeed in preparing students for the global arena, we have to make sure that work is being done in high school and higher education,” Dr. Block said.

Gulliver Schools’ IB Programme sponsored the sold-out breakfast; Gulliver IB students participated; and its jazz band entertained guests.
