Combine a wicked stepmother and two evil stepsisters, a magical fairy godmother, a king, a charming prince and a pair of glass slippers and you have the recipe for a lively, musical retelling of Charles Perrault’s classic tale Cinderella, onstage at Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre through March 21.
Orphaned Cinderella (Joanna Mandel) is forced to become a servant for her evil stepmother (Lauren Elbaum) and her two evil stepsisters Henrietta (Kati O’Hearn) and Gertrude (Arianne Collins). Every evening, after finishing her chores, she sits by the chimney and dreams about her rescue.
Meanwhile, on the eve of Prince Charming’s (Jonathan Beckett) 21st birthday with accordance of his father’s rules, King Darling the Third (Jonathan Sanz), the prince must find the woman he will marry.
With the aid of her two helpers (Mark Brown-Rodriguez and Andrew Shultz), the fairy godmother (Pilar Valentino) turns Cinderella’s rags into a beautiful ball gown and a pumpkin into a carriage.
Cinderella travels to the birthday ball and finally meets her prince, but will she make it home in time for her midnight deadline?
