The recent article Gables Station entrance approved (Neighbors, June 13) quoted bicycling activist John Hopkins as saying that “Berkowitz, unlike other developers, appeared interested in listening to the concerns of bicyclists and pedestrians and wanted to work with them to find a solution.” We are concerned and we have done more than listen! We have met on numerous occasions with the Miami Dade Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to fully discuss and to address concerns relative to the M-Path bike route. We proposed and have committed to implement extensive safety and other improvements to the M-Path trail, including traffic control, automatic detection of trail users, speed humps, traffic mirrors, lighting and widening the M-Path to 12 feet along the length of the Gables Station project. BPAC passed a resolution by a vote of 8-1 recommending approval of the proposed driveway and referencing our written covenant to implement all of the safety enhancements described in the Gables Station Bike Path Improvement Plan, which we are obligated to install at our expense. We are responsible developers, who do care about our community.Jeff Berkowitz, president, Berkowitz Development Group, Coconut Grove
