For more than 70 years, the Coral Gables Music Club has brought people together to listen to talented musicians in a more informal setting.
Founded in 1939 by four Gables residents, two of whose children are current members (Jay Clarke and Claire Frances Whitehurst), the Music Club was established to foster a love for music and the arts, as well as to encourage talent by providing performance opportunities. Musical talent is not a requirement for membership; everyone is welcome, and all club officers are volunteers.
The Music Club provides a fun, easygoing environment for members to gather for “musicales” rather than meetings, stresses President Patricia “Pat” Clarke.
“We all have enough meetings!” she says.
Musicales begin with refreshments and feature guest musicians. The close-knit community enjoys musicales on the third Tuesday of the month from October through May.
The next concert – free and open to the public — will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, with several Music Club musicians performing classical and jazz at the Steinway Piano Gallery, 4104 Ponce de Leon Blvd.
Such events give members with playing abilities an additional chance to meet and play solos, duets and music for two pianos. All skill levels are welcome in the group.
